St. Gabriel’s Parish Pastoral Council
Guidelines
In accord with canon 536 of the Code of Canon Law, and as directed by the Archbishop of Dublin,
St. Garbiel’s Parish, Dollymount, Dublin.
hereby established the following guidelines for its Parish Pastoral Council:
Parish Mission Statement
We, the Pastoral Council of St. Gabriel’s parish, responding to the gospel, set ourselves to work and worship as a Christian community.
For the next three years we are committed to making our parish a place where each person feels welcomed, accepted and valued.
Membership of the Pastoral Council
Members shall be baptised Catholics who participate in the life and worship of the parish. A broad representation of the parish will be sought and the focus kept on what is best for the whole parish.
After providing information (including a leaflet drop to all houses in the parish and ongoing communication in the parish newsletter) and the opportunity for guided prayer at the liturgy over a period of weeks, all active members of the parish will be invited to nominate suitable candidates (over 18 years of age) for membership of the Pastoral Council
After a period of discernment 9-12 members, in addition to those clergy appointed by the Archbishop to the parish, will be approved depending on the number and interest of nominated persons
To ensure that the Council is effective, initial and on-going pastoral formation will be provided for all members, in collaboration with other parishes in the local deanery.

Prayer for St. Gabriel’s Pastoral Council
Lord Jesus, we ask you to be with us now.
You have promised to be with us always, as our light and our shining way.
We know, Lord Jesus, that you are the same yesterday, today and for ever.
For that we praise you, together with the Father and the Holy Spirit.
